Port Austin, Michigan Farmers' Market Saturday, August 5, 2017

It was a leisurely drive to the nearby colorful Port Austin's Farmers' Market which was very crowded with shoppers and vendors. There were loads of great veggies to buy and many crafts booths with very interesting items too. Bruce was in one of the booths there selling hand made flower pots and colorful hand made rugs.

A sampling of the art

On the way to Port Austin through Harbor Beach there was a flock of turkey vultures roosting in some dead ash trees; they were waiting for the air to warm up a bit in order to create the up welling thermals which they rely on to do their daily searches for carrion. At first from a distance I thought it was a "murder of crows". I wonder what a large group of vultures is called.

A friend gave me three names for a group of vultures: a committee of vultures is for when they are resting grouped in trees like below, a kettle of vultures is for when they are all in flight like they might be above a carcass, and finally a wake of vultures is for when there is a group of them on the ground feeding on a dead animal - here that could be a road kill raccoon, opossum, or deer.

I returned home via Port Hope and found the Port Hope Mercantile, an interesting hardware store with many great hand made garden and house objets d'art.

I finally have a kitchen rooster
(and another Clementina.)
