Spring

Spring arrives later here because we're further north but, perhaps, we appreciate it more. On the other end of summer, fall also lasts longer because of the lake effect. It takes longer to warm up in the spring and longer to cool down in the fall because of all the water in our "ocean-like" but fresh water Lake Huron. Clicking on photos enlarges them.

An advantage, from the goldfinch's point of view, to NOT mowing, is that grass goes to seed which pleases our "wild canaries". I entertain with quantities of niger seed large flocks of these birds in the winter when they're in their muted green plumage. I think it's worth it for the great joy they bring in the summer, don't you?
