More Autumn Photos

For some reason this breakfast photo reminded me of David!

Kathy came last weekend and we had an amazing time! We ate too much, talked a lot about absolutely everything under the sun, reminisced about Silver Lake and the cottage, Maryland, the home on Oakwood, saw amazing autumn colors everywhere, and visited Icelandic Sheepdog puppies at Roni's.  Clicking on photos will enlarge them.

Some recent photos from the Thumb and my yard. SADD has already set in for me and I am really suffering worse than ever this time. Endure! For the second year I attended the fiber festival in Michigan's Thumb at nearby Camp Cavell. I enjoyed it very much especially the neat people and the folk singers - many, but not most of the attendees, were Q-tips like me.

I took this photo a few seconds too late - still it's nice. Reminds me a sunrise on the Caribbean (even though I've never been there). There are still a few sailboats passing by although rare.

I will never understand the need to rake leaves. To me they are nature's gold-  mouldering to feed insects, molds, fungi, bacteria, and earthworms and enriching the soil for next year's plants. We have not had a frost here yet.

Do I know the names of all the plants in my yard. Yes - so far. I wonder why or how I can remember their scientific names and common names (when I even know their common names) when I have always had trouble with people's names. Hmmm.

I used to rationalize the bleakness of sleeping winter when everything looked, if not dead, at least dormant, by saying that winter gives me a nice break from gardening. I don't feel that way this year. This year I wonder if I will see the re-awakening.

"My" Snapping Turtle

For two years a baby snapping turtle has been living in my very small minnow, goldfish, frog, toad, snake pond. I don't know where it came from, most likely a nearby nest. He (?) has been coming up to the surface to feed along with the fish and growing.  The other day she (?) was up on my porch. I can't imagine how it could it crawl up three steps to get there. Maybe it was telling me it was time to get back to nature. I took it down to the beach and watched it crawl into the pretty aggressive waves. It had a good start. I hope it makes it. This was not my first baby pond snapper. There must be an adult female out in the Lake that climbs up on shore nearby to lay her eggs. Glad I can help! Clicking enlarges photos.

Some fall color from my own yard.
