Autumn - Wednesday, October 6, 2021

I suppose I should weed my garden more - but then I wouldn't find happy surprise volunteers like these three singletons below. Sometimes a solitary flower is enough, just - well, enough.

A truly hardy mum

I don't buy those huge store mums; they don't survive winters here. The above "Michigander" mum has survived unprotected and prospered through many rough Michigan winters.

The Bonsai vine below spent its first summer outside. It's always been what I call a "picky eater" meaning that it has survived but only just barely for many years. I'm not sure, is it a Jasmine? I've had it for so long that I've forgotten; each year I have despaired that it wouldn't make it. It has flowered every winter, but again only a few flowers. Scented but not profuse. I just brought it back into the house. Nice autumn color. This summer it's done well. Maybe this year, this winter?
