Another beautiful spring day. The before and after photos don't really show the size of the trees, most of which were cottonwoods and aspens, that have been removed.

We finally saw several spring flowering miniature Iris flowers blooming on the bluff and in the north birch-aspen woods.

Lots of freighters going by today - - - - . We heard that this year was the first year in a long time that salmon fingerlings were planted in Lake Huron.

Saturday, April 20, 2013

Today - Saturday, April 20, 2013 - was a beautiful spring day and the dogs lolled in the yard.

My two favorite spring flowering shrubs, Daphne - which I grew from a seed given to me by Jim L., and Abeliophyllum - a so-called white forsythia (but it's not really) - are open today. One of the reasons I love them is they both have a wonderful fragrance.

Monday, April 15, 2013

Today - Monday, April 15, 2013 - I met Jon Prowse from Brown City up at Sans Souci; Jon and his crew worked on taking down some cottonwoods (about 15), some white pines (about 5) some leaning aspens in the north woods (about 5) and some aspens (5) on the bluff overlooking Lake Huron. At the same time I also worked in the north woods clearing out some trees and branches left by a bad storm, the remnants of the east coast hurricane Sandy last fall.

Here chronologically are some photos from last year in March and April and some more recent ones from this year today. These are 'before' shots. I'll add some 'after' shots this coming weekend when the weather, hopefully, turns nice again.

Wodin

As you can see, Wodin the Icelandic Sheepdog is doing great.

"Wodin would like to send a Happy Birthday wish to all his littermates. His Birthday started with a great big 'birthday bone' which dutifully got buried after a good chew. After his favourite game of 'fetch' he helped bring wood in, chased the birds off his turf and then proceeded to cool down in his 'swimming pool' - our small pond. Then it was back to fun and games if he could get us interested. One trick which always works well - stealing paper from where we are working, got us outside to play ball! After supper it's his playtime with his pillow, pig or snakey followed by winddown and bed. - - He still has your pillow which has been mended and is in his crate at night. I told him he had to be careful with it as I wasn't going to mend it again and would you believe he has been ever so gentle with it since."
