Vinlands Thora - Icelandic Sheepdog - Agility Aficionado

I just received this nice email from Sally who adopted Icelandic Sheepdog Vinlands Thora a few years ago.

July 31, 2019

Hi Jaime. I hope all is well. I’d lost your email in a computer shift a few years ago so haven’t been able to send any updates. Just got it recently when we purchased some Icelandic wool dryer balls from Crossbreeze and remembered that Thora’s sire, Laki, is there.

Thora and I finally started Agility about a year ago. This summer we have gone to 3 CPE trials and of 15 runs  we qualified in 13. If Thora’s person hadn’t gotten confused twice it would have been 15. She is awesome and does everything I ask without hesitation.

I love, love, love hearing about "my" puppies. I believe Icelandic Sheepdogs are made for performance events like agility and obedience. Unlike a few other breeds known for their agility abilities, Icelandic Sheepdogs pay close attention to their human handlers when they are in the agility ring together. They are an incredibly smart breed and learn the things we ask them to learn in only a few tries whereas some other dog breeds are slow on the draw, in my opinion.

Tuesday Kit and I started taking a beginning obedience class in Lapeer which is about 2 hours from me - a long trip but we both had fun. As long as the weather is nice and I can drive we'll continue.

Port Huron to Mackinaw Sailboat Race

I've been estivating indoors because of the excessive heat and humidity and have missed the excitement of the annual Port Huron to Mackinaw sailboat race.

While I realize that watching sailboats race from long distance doesn't have the same blood pressure raising, adrenaline pumping, nail biting, cliff hanging feel, it is nonetheless a quintessential Michigan summer experience.

The following shots are from a great distance and the humidity is extremely high today making the photos look foggy.

Regardless, here are some photos taken at the same moment in time to show the spread of boats.Several successive batches of sailboats have passed my windows. Clicking on photos will enlarge them.

We had a violent storm right after I took these photos. I hope everyone is OK and they all finished the race.

Life imitating art? The first shot below was the night sky just before sunset. Under that are two pieces done by two different men named Lewis. (Perhaps son and father - I wonder.) Clicking on photos will enlarge them.
