Chow Hounds

These Icelandic Sheepdog puppies can really eat. I honestly don't think I have ever examined the meaning of those two words (Chow Hounds) - - - until today. Maybe they're extra hungry today after getting their first inoculations. (They did NOT get a Leptospirosis vaccination yesterday; they are too young still. However, they will eventually need that after they get to their new homes. Follow the protocols that you and your vet agree to.

These  - guys - eat - lots!

Because they eat out of the community "hubcap"*, it's hard to guess how much Eukanuba Lamb and Rice Puppy kibble they are eating individually but it must be in the neighborhood of at least half a cup each three times a day! (Sometimes I give them a snack, of kibble, before bed time but that means a mess to clean up in the morning, if you know what I mean.) They like it "dry" straight out of the bag and they also like it soaked for a few minutes to soften it a bit. (I think dry kibble is probably better because it helps keep their teeth free of tartar; they usually get it dry.)

(*We use a feeding dish called a hubcap because there is a pillar in the middle which keeps the food, and therefore the puppies, out around the edge. Otherwise the pups would be literally swimming in the food while they eat. If you look closely at the photo, you can see the central pillar.)

The pups have also experienced the thrill of having a small dog cookie twice. They love 'em.

They have had their toenails cut once and they will need cutting again soon. (When you do that, do not forget the double dewclaws on their hind legs!)
